Mary Catherine ‘Kay’ Morrison

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Catherine ‘Kay’ Morrison, 75 of Sydney. Kay passed away Friday, June 21, 2019, surrounded by family, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Born in Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Hubert and Mary Philomena (Pitre/Peters) Pettipas.
Kay loved her family, her grandchildren, and the wonderful friendship of her many sisters. She enjoyed summers at the cottage on the north side of East Bay, gardening and spending time with family. Kay was a member of St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Parish Sydney, the CWL, and the Rug Hooking Guild of Nova Scotia.
Kay is survived by her husband, Wayne; daughter, Jennifer (Donald) MacLellan, Beaumont, AB; son, Christopher, Montreal, QC; sisters, Mary Philomena ‘Mena’ Yurchesyn, Sydney, Anna Mae (Arthur) Stone, Ottawa, Delores Gariepy, Barrie, Yvonne MacKinnon, Sydney, Alvina ‘Viny’ (Alex) Berthier, L’Ardoise, Elaine (Emile) Roach, Coxheath, and grandchildren, Matthew and Stuart MacLellan.
She was predeceased by brothers, Arthur and Gerard, and sisters, Ethel Gillis and Lorraine MacDonald.
Funeral Mass will take place Friday, June 28, 2019 in St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Bill Burke officiating. Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank all of her doctors, especially the doctors and staff at the An Cala Palliative Care Unit for the wonderful care they provided. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Palliative Society Care of Cape Breton County.
