Friends and family of Lottie Jean Stewart are deeply saddened to announce her sudden passing on June 25, 2019. Lottie was born in Westville on May 18, 1947 and was the daughter of the late Jean and Allie Stewart. Lottie graduated from High School in Westville and spent the early part of her career teaching school in Dartmouth. She later filled the role as Recreation Coordinator for the Town of Westville and was a tremendous influence on the youth in her hometown. She later worked with Tourism Nova Scotia where she retired. The position, in which Lottie is best known, is her years serving Central Nova as Deputy Returning Officer and then Chief Returning Officer for Elections Canada. This position demonstrated Lottie’s best gifts of socializing, working hard and meeting new friends. Never one to stay home and idle, Lottie was always involved in her community and this was acknowledged by her various awards of volunteer of the year. Lottie was a long time volunteer with The Children’s Wish Foundation and a 10-year member of the Dunvegan Girls Pipe Band. She was always active with her Church family and served as Clerk of Session, President of the Lady’s Auxiliary and Member of the Board of Managers for St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church Westville. When not working hard in her community Lottie loved to spend time with her card club where she has been a member for 40 years or travelling down south with her many friends. Lottie love of baking was demonstrated in her preparation of meals for the Rotary Club and her reputation for fabulous squares, which she has provided to hundreds of events over the years. Although her work and volunteer activities were vast and important, what made Lottie special was who she was as a person. Lottie loved to be with people and laugh. Never one to turn down the opportunity to be involved in a social event or a road trip Lottie would soon find herself in the middle of the crowd regaling people with her stories. Lottie was a true historian of the Town of Westville, seemingly knowing everyone and their families and we have lost a piece of our history in her passing. To those who knew her best she simply was one of the most unique, generous and honest people we have had the pleasure of being with in our own journey. Lottie will be forever missed by her best friend of 48 years Agnes Leadbeater (Allan Bird) and her daughter Amy MacLeod (James Peters). Aunt Lott also leaves behind to mourn Amy’s children Cassidy, Zach, Gemma and Caden who will forever remember her care, attention and unconditional love. Also left to mourn are special friends Kathryn, Jackie, Lynn, her church family and her sweet cat Daisy. Lottie is survived by cousins Keith Sutherland, Stanley Sutherland, Elda MacDonald, Linda Crook , Clara Jean Blakney, Nina MacNeil, Roland MacNeil, Allan Stewart and Gordon MacLean. Lottie is resting at Eagles Funeral Home Westville with visitation on Friday June 28 from 2-4 AND 7-9. Lottie’s funeral will be held 2 pm Saturday June 29th at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Westville with Sam Graham officiating.
