It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Eric Keeping, 61, of Glace Bay. Eric passed away Saturday, June 11, 2011, doing what he loved to do, fishing. Eric would have turned 62 on Sunday, June 12, 2011.
Born in Burnt Island, N.L., he was the son of the late Arthur and Sarah (King) Keeping.
Eric was a life long fisherman. He loved fishing with his buddy, Basil Vaters and good friend, Herbie Nash. He also cherished his long Sunday drives with his loving wife of 36 years, Frances ‘Maid’.
Eric will be sadly missed by his wife, Frances ‘Maid’ (Cluett); daughter, Leona (Jason) McVicar, Halifax; son, Eric (Cara), Halifax; brothers, John (Linda), Newfoundland, Arthur (Katie), Newfoundland; Poppie’s four treasures, grandchildren, Jacob, Bryanna, Rebecca and Ava. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and a very special, niece, Tena Moore, Glace Bay; and sisters-in-law, Allie Moore, Glace Bay, Violet Keeping, Dartmouth, and Martha Vaters, Glace Bay.
Besides his parents, Eric was predeceased by a brother, Chester.
Visitation for Eric Keeping will held Tuesday, 7-9 p.m. in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Michael Goodfellow officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Family flowers only please. Donations in Eric’s memory may be made to Tim Hortons Children’s Camp or a charity of choice.
