NEWCOMB, E. Lois - 94, of Canning, Kings County, passed away suddenly at home on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Born November 26, 1916, in Canning she was a daughter of the late, J. Whitman and Julia (Caton) Newcomb. She is survived by a niece, Anna (Bob) Young, Hampton, New Brunswick; nephew, John (Cheryll) Bigelow, Kingsport; her late niece’s husband, and care giver, Daniel Barkhouse, Canning; four great nieces, five great nephews, six grandnieces, six grandnephews. She was predeceased by brothers, Blake, Avard, Ross, twin siblings, James and Priscilla (Ralph) Bigelow; niece, Irene (Daniel) Barkhouse. Lois owned and operated E.L. Newcomb China Shop for 73 years. She was a member of the Canning Baptist Church, where she was a former choir member. She was also a member of the Fieldwood Heritage Society. Lois was always a willing contributor to any worthy cause, including the S.P.C.A. and the Rotary Club of Kentville (former Radio Auction). One of her favourite past times other than her store was completing the weekly Lexicon. Visitation was held 6-8 p.m. Sunday, June 12, 2011, with funeral service 2 p.m., Monday, June 13, 2011, followed by a reception, all in the White Family Funeral Home, Kentville , Reverend Donald Rafuse officiating. Burial took place in Habitant Cemetery, Kings County. Donations in memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
