Florence Catherine (MacMaster) LeDrew, 89, of Antigonish and formerly of Sydney passed away peacefully on June 18, 2011, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Pictou, she was a daughter of the late Duncan and Catherine (Pope) MacMaster.
Florence was a graduate of the Victoria General School of Nursing. It was during this period she met her beloved future husband, Campbell, who was training for his overseas service. Courageously facing many obstacles in her life, Florence treasured her family and friends with her generosity, warm smile and loving kindness. Family gatherings and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren were highlights in her life.
Surviving are her children, Judy (Jerome) McCarron, Antigonish, Jane (Mike) Hartlen, Halifax, Gordon LeDrew, Edmonton; grandchildren, Jen Lane, Phoenix, Ariz., Adam (Natalie) Merchant, Antigonish, Amy (Murray) Fleming, Inglewood, Ont., Ryan (Jenn) McCarron, Beaumont, Alta., John McCarron (Paige Colpitts), Truro, Jeff LeDrew (Shawna Greer), Edmonton, Jason (Linda) LeDrew, Edmonton and seven delightful great-grandchildren.
Predeceased by her husband, Campbell; brothers, Henry, Sam and Alfred MacMaster and sister Elizabeth MacKenzie.
Florence’s life will be celebrated in St. James’ United Church in Antigonish on Friday, June 24, at 2 p.m., with Rev. Peter Smith presiding. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the staff of St. Martha’s Hospital for their kind, professional care for Florence in her time of need. A special thanks to Patricia Allan, her doctor and friend.
