Ruth Mary Kirk

VICTORIA, BC – Family are saddened to announce the passing of their mother, Ruth Mary (Preston) Kirk on June 18, 2011 at the Beacon Hill Villa, Victoria, British Columbia in her 81st year.
Ruth was a former resident of Glenelg, Guysborough County and Antigonish She moved to Sooke, British Columbia in 1995, living near her daughter, Elizabeth for a number of years before moving to the retirement villa / nursing home in Victoria.
Born in Saskatoon, Sask., she was the daughter of the late Robert and Celia Preston. Her family moved to Bowmanville, Ontario when Ruth was a child and she grew up there, moving to Nova Scotia, following her marriage. She was a former member of Kirk United Memorial Church, Aspen. She delivered the rural mail for Canada Post many years and was well known for the Fast Food Canteen she owned at her Glenelg home. One of Ruth’s many passions in life was her love of flowers, particularly pink Peonies and her African Violets.
Surviving are her children, James Robert (Peggy), Port Bickerton; Donna (Pete) Howard, Stellarton; Elizabeth (Mike) Device, Langford, BC; Nancy (Alex) MacLellan, Country Harbour; Brian, Antigonish;. eight grandchildren: Natasha (Jeff) MacQuarrie, Jim (Alicia) Kirk Jr., Shawn Kirk; Grace (Chris) Hudson, Patricia (Allan) Hudson, Tina Hudson; BJ Kirk and Savanna Kirk; three great-grandchildren: Kirk MacQuarrie, Andrew Kirk and Emma Kirk. She is also survived by her brothers, Maurice and Ray Preston, Bowmanville, Ontario, sisters-in-law, Agnes MacDonald and Kaye Paynter, as well as special niece Arlene Williamson.
She was predeceased by her former husband, Everett Kirk, sister, Blanche and brothers: Stewart, Allan and Lloyd. Cremation has taken place. Funeral and interment will be held in Victoria, BC on June 25, 2011. There will be a public visitation Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Kirk United Memorial Church, Aspen from 2-4 p.m.
