PETERSON, PETER FRANK MUNCH (RCMP Sgt. ret.) - Peter Peterson, 79, Tatamagouche, it is with deep regret that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, on June 25, 2011 after a lengthy illness. Born in Windsor, Ontario, July 5, 1931, he was the son of the late Frank and Christina (Smith) Peterson. He attended school in Windsor and Ottawa (Lisgar Collegiate). He played football in the O.R.F.U. for several years and coached swimming at Ottawa Boys Club. He joined the RCMP, training at “Depot” Division in Regina Saskatchewan and was stationed in N.B. Ont., N.S., Sk. and ended by opening Riverview, N.B. detachment in 1975. He was a lifetime member of the RCMP Veterans Association in New Brunswick. He enjoyed football, hockey, swimming and golfing as well as motorcycling and hunting. On retirement to Woodstock, N.B., he was a Board Member of Carleton Memorial Hospital, President of Crime Stoppers, a member of the Valley Yacht Club and on the Old Home Week committee for several years. He and his wife Betty moved to Tatamagouche in 2007. Besides his wife, he is survived by daughters, Patti (Steve Abbey), and Jill (Paul Colburn), all of Tatamagouche; he is also survived by two grandsons and four great grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth (Allen) Jerkens, Long Island, N.Y., Charlotte Peterson, Windsor, Ont. and Lillian (Jack) Parker, Tulsa, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Miriam Drueding formerly of Tacoma, Washington. Cremation has taken place.
A “going away party” for Pete will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 29 in Coulter’s Funeral Home (657-3288) Tatamagouche. No funeral service by request. Interment will be at a later date. Family flowers only. Memorial donations to Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital or to a charity of choice would be appreciated.
