Peter John "Pete" Sutherland
SUTHERLAND, PETER JOHN "PETE" - The passing of Peter John Sutherland, of Durham Bridge, NB, loving husband of Patricia Sutherland, occurred on Friday, July 15, 2011 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on March 26, 1941 in Blissfield, NB, he was a son of the late George Sutherland and Janet (Brennan) Colford. Peter was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Marysville for many years. He was self-employed where he owned and operated the Sutherlands Marysville Products Bar and worked for Briggs and Woolen Mills Ltd in his later years. Pete was a strong sponsor of various sports, especially the Marysville Royals when they were known as the Sutherlands Marysville Royals when they won their championship in 1981. He was a member of the NB Sports Hall of Fame and the City Sports Hall of Fame. He loved baseball, hunting, fishing and was a real outdoorsman. His greatest passion was his garden and especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his loving wife of 47 years, Pete is survived by his son, Chris (Heidi) Sutherland, of Fredericton, NB; daughter, Kelly (Tim) Doucette, of Durham Bridge, NB; brothers, Jim (Joan), Ben (Leona), both of Blissfield, NB, Paul (Mary) Sutherland, of Fredericton, NB, Gene (Elaine) Colford, of Doaktown, NB; sisters, Margaret (Frank) Hersey, Mary McAloon Jones (Alden), both of Nashwaak Village, NB, Gladys Washburn of Renous, NB; four grandchildren, Devin and Garrett Doucette, Ashley and Brooklyn Sutherland; special brothers, Roy Brennan, of Sussex, NB, Ed Brennan (Diane), of Blissfield, NB and Tom Brennan (Lillian), of Blackville, NB; several cousins, nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Pete was predeceased by his special mom; grandmother, Gladys Brennan; brother, Sherman Colford; grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and nephews.
Visitation will be held at York Funeral Home, 302 Brookside Drive, Fredericton, NB on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, Marysville, NB on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 2 pm with Father Aaron Know as celebrant. Interment will take place in the Upper Durham Memorial Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances may be made to the NB Lung Association or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
