Naomi Madeline (nee Stickland) Courtney

Of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2011 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Rencontre West, Newfoundland on October 7, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Philip and Sarah Stickland. Naomi was employed with Postal Services and Telegraphy for 15 years, before relocating to Dartmouth in 1969. Her joy in life was spending time with her family. She will be sadly missed and always loved for the wonderful mother, grandmother and friend that she was. Naomi is survived by her daughter, Alma Symes (Albert); son Junior (Judy), Truro; grandchildren, Tammy Bonnell, Tanya Courtney Cook and Danny Symes; great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Spencer, Courtney and Mitchell; brother, Samuel Stickland; and sisters, Millie and Laura Strickland, Newfoundland. She was predeceased by the love of her life, husband Albert, in 2007; daughter at infancy, Leah; and sisters Ruby and Betty of Ottawa. Visitation will be held on Monday July 18 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville, where a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 19 at 11am in the funeral home chapel. A reception will follow with burial in Oakridge Memory Gardens. Donations in Naomi's memory may be made to Palliative Care or a Charity of Choice.
