It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a great husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. Allister passed away Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at the Glace Bay Health Care Facility.
Born in Glace Bay, he was the son of the late William and Agnes (Lyons) Turner.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Anglican Church, Glace Bay. Allister was employed with Devco retiring from #26 Colliery after 37 years of service. He enjoyed gardening and assembling puzzles.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Elva (Slade); son, William ‘Bill’ (Arlene), Glace Bay; brother, Francis, Glace Bay; cherished grandchildren, Daniel and Kate.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Kimberly Ann, brothers, Dan, Alex, Arthur, sisters, Agnes and a sister, Violet, in infancy.
In honouring Allister’s wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 in the funeral home with a service to follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Rev’d Vernon Reid will be officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Glace Bay.
Donations in Allister’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Church or the Canadian Cancer Society.
