Gerald McLean
Gerald McLean, New Glasgow, formerly of Moose River, slipped from his time on earth on July 18, 2011 in the Main Infirmary of the Glen Haven Manor, New Glasgow. Dad was born September 23, 1924, a son of the late Judson and Margaret (Patrick) McLean.
Dad was a man of quiet dignity who lived his life with generosity, gratitude and few complaints. His working life was spent at McLean’s Irving Garage where he was a master mechanic, welder, tow truck driver, snow remover and feeder of garage cats and dogs. In all types of weather, he fixed cars, pulled vehicles out of ditches, removed auto parts and pumped gas; whatever the travelling public required. Many were his quiet acts of kindness.
Dad’s life was forever altered in the fall of 1946 with the arrival in Moose River of the beautiful Lolly Williamson. She was the star of his universe and they embarked on a wonderful topsy turvy life together that lasted for 64 years. Mom died on April 9, 2011 with Dad by her side holding her hand. After her death, Dad’s will to live flickered and finally went out.
Left to mourn the loss of their father and grandfather are daughter Robin (Bradley) Jardine, Sinclair’s Island; sons, Gerry (Joyce) Castro Valley, California; Shaun, New Glasgow, Lorne (Pam Cross), Hillside; daughter-in-law Ardath (Cecil) Rankin, Pictou; grandchildren, Bradley McLean, Fort MacMurray, Alberta; Maureen (Jason Gould), Truro; Laura McLean, Halifax; Brenda Dale McLean, Halifax.
Besides Mom and his parents, Dad was predeceased by sisters Olive McNutt and Helen Dean, a son Jamie, daughter-in-law Anita (Park) McLean, son-in-law Dale Schnettler.
We want to extend our gratitude to the women and men of the Main Infirmary-Glen Haven Manor. Their acts of kindness, patience, love and devotion over the past six years will always be remembered.
The family will receive visitors from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2011 in the H.W. Angus Funeral Home, New Glasgow. The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011 from the First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow with Rev. Dr. Glen Matheson presiding. Internment will take place in the Moose River Cemetery. Memorial donations in memory of Gerald may be made to the Moose River Cemetery Fund or First Presbyterian Church, New Glasgow.
