KENNETH THOMAS LAING
1947 -2011
Ken Laing passed away on July 4, 2011 at the age of 63 in Henderson NV following a courageous battle with lung cancer. He is predeceased by his parents Robert and Lillian Laing, of Swift Current SK , an uncle, David Laing, one brother Robert(Bob) Laing and survived by his wife Janet, three sons Kenneth of Schaumberg IL, Robert (Jill) of Coaldale, AB, and Christopher of Medicine Hat, AB Three grandchild, Yan Jing, Robert Jr., and Jeanelle Laing. Two brothers Ross(Sandi) of Edmonton, AB, David (Marlene) of Estevan SK, and one sister Sheila(Paul) Barnes of St. Albert AB. Ken and Janet were married in Shaunavon SK in 1968. Shortly thereafter Ken studied power engineering and began a career in the petrochemical industry. In 1988 he began to wander the world, working in numerous countries around the globe, gaining a wealth of experience and the respect of his colleagues. Ending his career as a Sr. Commissioning Manager with CB&I in Port Arthur, TX. Ken was known for his great generosity, both with his money, and with his wisdom. He was always willing to help those who needed it, generous to his friends and happy to mentor those who were interested in learning. Ken loved people and loved to socialize. We will all remember the happy times, drinks on the patio after work, Friday evening dinner with friends, and how he enjoyed the casino. A good friend, a good man, who loved life and loved a good time. In this spirit a funeral service will be held at St. Ambrose Parish in Coaldale AB on Friday August 12, at 6:00pm followed by a wake.
