CARRUTHERS, GEORGE, RUSSELL - The passing of George Russell Carruthers occurred on July 27, 2011 at the Thomas Hall Shannex Complex. He was 86. Born in Sydney Mines NS, he was a son of the late Joseph and Nellie (Dickson) Carruthers. George was employed as a crash and rescue firefighter all his life, he was an avid fisherman with a great love for all of his family. Wesleyan by faith, he was a member of the Wesleyan United Church in Lincoln; he was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 4, the Royal Arch Mason’s, as well as the Centennial Lodge #53 F&AM. He is survived by his daughter; Lucinda Chessie (Paul) of Fredericton; one son Jack (Dorothy) of Fredericton; his adored granddaughter Melissa Chessie of Fredericton, two brothers; William of Fredericton and Joseph of MacKenzie, BC, two sisters; Helen of Oliver, BC and Margaret of Florence, Cape Breton. George was also a proud and loving great grandfather to Eric Joseph Guitard, as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. George was predeceased by his wife Christine Whitfield, brother Richard and sister Jean.
Although there will be no visitation a funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at 1:00 PM from the Wesley United Church in Lincoln, with Rev. Brian MacDonald officiating. Interment to take place at a later date. A reception will follow at the Lincoln Lions Club.
