BETTS, STERLING STACKHOUSE - The passing of Sterling Betts of Doaktown, NB, husband of the late Mary (Lyons) Betts, occurred on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. Born on January 1, 1917 he was a son of the late Justus and Etta (Weaver) Betts. Sterling was formerly employed with the local mill, Russell and Swim. Sterling is survived by his daughter, Joan Hatfield (Harland) of Truro, NS; sons, Ray (Lorenda) Betts and Murray (Lana) Betts both of Doaktown, NB; 13 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sister, Mary O’Donnell (Robert) of Ontario; several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, Sterling was predeceased by his sons, Norman and Howard Betts; sisters, Annie Morehouse, Olive Lyons, Ethel Mersereau, Mabel Brown, Vida Mitchell, Vivian Ross and Verda Brown; brothers, David, Harold, Holland, Bert, Lloyd and Roland Betts.
Visitation will take place at Miramichi Valley Funeral Home, 7681 Route 8, New Bandon, NB on Wednesday, August 3, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. A Legion Tribute Service will take place at the funeral home on Wednesday at 6:30 pm. A Funeral Service will be held from the funeral home on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 2 pm with Rev. David Storey and Rev. J.A. Treese officiating. Pallbearers will be Chris George, Troy Betts, Russell Storey, Roger Mitchell, Bill Mitchell and George Betts. Interment will take place in Doaktown United Baptist Cemetery. For those who wish, remembrances made to the charity of the donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
