McMASTER, MARION (HODNETT) - Marion McMaster, 90, wife of the late Douglas McMaster of Point La Nim, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2011 at the Campbellton Regional Hospital. Born in New Bandon, she was a daughter of the late Temple and Nellie (Blake) Hodnett. She is survived by daughter Cathie Brown (Patrick) of Point La Nim with whom she resided, step-daughter Carolyn (McMaster) Howroyd of Fredericton, step-son John McMaster (Sharon) of Moncton, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Helen McNeish (Guy), and by her husband Douglas (1989). Marion’s father died when she was ten years old and she moved with her mother from New Bandon to Black Point to live with her uncle and aunt, Wilfred and Alice Blake, and her cousins Bill, Stewart, Dan and Allison. After completing business training in Moncton, Marion was employed at the Clark Ruse aircraft assembly plant and at Eaton’s. She served in the Canadian Army Reserve. In the early 1950s, she spent a few years in Ontario at Thunder Bay (Port Arthur/Fort William) and at Marathon, before returning to Bathurst to marry and become a working mom as Executive Secretary at Northern Machine Works. She retired to Point La Nim in 1971, but maintained a summer residence in New Bandon and kept in touch with her many relatives and friends in Bathurst and the Downshore area. She was active in her community and in her church, St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Dalhousie, and was a member of the Dalhousie Music Club and the Royal Canadian Legion.
In accordance with Marion’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Dalhousie. Interment will be in the Stonehaven Cemetery near New Bandon. Memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, to St. Mary’s Anglican Church, or to a charity of the donor’s choice. www.macmillansfuneralhome.ca.
