Mary Bertha Mersereau, 94, Antigonish, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2009, in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Sydney, she was a daughter of the late Frederick and Minnie (Coombs) King. Bert to her friends, she worked in the circulation department at the Cape Breton Post for over 40 years and the great memories from her time there were the source of numerous stories.
Never one to be idle, she was a talented photographer, artist, and crafter. She was involved in Crafts-a-Plenty, was an avid bowler, and curled for many years at the Sydney Curling Club. In her free time, she took evening classes in law, photography, art, and automechanics at Cape Breton University.
Bert always had a joke to tell or a funny story - a true Cape Bretoner to the core and she will be missed.
Left with fond and loving memories are son, Lynn (Joan); granddaughters, Jennifer, Kelly and Allison (Jerry Duggan); great-grandson, Oliver; and many other relatives and a large circle of friends.
Predeceased by her husband, Robert ‘Bob’; sisters, Leah Louise, Ada, Mildred and brothers, Russell ‘Russ’ and Earl.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) in C.L. Curry Funeral Home, 135 College St., Antigonish, from 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 10:30 a.m.
