It is with deep regret that we, the family, announce the sudden passing of James Douglas ‘Doug’ Hill on Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at his home.
Born Feb. 10, 1922, in Point Edward, he was the son of the late Percy and Lillan (Beaton) Hill.
Doug worked as a carpenter with Sydney Engineer and Drydock until his retirement.
Dad loved fishing, hunting, driving on his ATV, and in his garden.
Dad was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He was truly loved by all who had the good fortune to have known him.
Doug is survived by his wife of 63 years, Oretha; daughters, Shirley (Wilburn) Hill, Point Edward, Alberta (John) Carey, Balls Creek, Kimberley (Ritchie) Matthews, North Sydney; sons, William (Betty), Frenchvale, Randy (Dawn), Point Edward, Gerald, Sydney; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Doug is also survived by one brother, Ashly (Eileen), Louisbourg.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his five sisters, Pauline Hill, Catherine Brown, Mildred Penticost, Pearl Rudderham, Irene Nickless; six brothers, Ernest, Percy, Clarence, Francis, Hanson and Stewart.
Family flowers only. Donations may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Society.
There will be no visitation. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 8, 2011 at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney. Interment to follow in St. John’s Cemetery.
