MacKENZIE, John Robert “Bobby” – 73, North River, passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, August 7, 2011, at home. Born March 6, 1938, in Upper North River, he was a son of the late Mary Jean MacKenzie. In his earlier years, Bobby was an avid woodsman and later worked for Sproule Lumber for 30 years, retiring in 1997 due to ill health. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed being in the woods, gardening and handyman work. He loved his daily visits to Tim Hortons, where he always enjoyed chatting about the latest news or politics and catching up with friends. Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Edna (Naugler); sons, Phillip (Nancy), Upper North River; Wayne, North River; step-daughter, Patricia Jollymore (James), Brampton, Ontario; grandchildren, Michelle Jollymore (Angus), Adam MacKenzie (Kelsey), Megan MacKenzie; brother, Ernest (Shirley), Halifax; several nieces and nephews. Along with his mother, he was predeceased by his brother, Lloyd; one nephew. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Bobby’s family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m., today, August 9, 2011, and where the funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, August 10, 2011, Reverend Brian DeLong officiating. Interment in Blackmore Memorial Cemetery, Upper North River. Flowers or a donation in Bobby’s memory to a charity of choice are welcomed.
