Doris Dobbie Peet (Mackend) passed away in Victoria on September 27, 2009 at the age of 95. Mom was born in Troon, Ayrshire, Scotland on April 21st 1914. In the early 1920's, she and her family immigrated to Canada and mom took a teaching position at Queen Margaret School in Duncan B.C. She also taught at John Oliver high School in Vancouver where she met her future husband, Fred. They married in Yellowknife, N.W.T. in 1941, started a family in Vancouver and subsequently settled in Prince Albert, raising their family there and in Victoria. Mom also taught at Composite Collegiate in Prince Albert, at the Prince Albert Technical Institute and was a founding member of the Nisbet Memorial United Church. After moving to Victoria in 1967, she taught at St. Margaret's School until retirement in 1990. As the daughter of a ship's captain she developed a love of travel and throughout her life, made many trips to Europe and across Canada visiting family and friends. She participated in the BC Senior Games (drama group) for many years and enjoyed attending numerous Elder Hostels. Pre-deceased by her husband Fred, Mom is survived by her five children: Fred (Josephine), Bee (Henry), Dorothy, Bill (Josie), Dave (Laurette), by seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. She made many friends over her life, including those at Shannon Oaks where she lived happily for the last two years of her life.
