CHRISTENSEN
Arlene Carina (Gilbertson)
November 17, 1926 – August 10, 2011.
Arlene was born on November 17, 1926 in her Uncle Bill Gilbertson’s house at Frontier, SK along with her twin brother Arnold. She was the first girl to be born in Frontier. She was raised on the family farm ten miles south of Frontier with her two sisters and one brother. She attended Halliwell School in the early years. Then continued with high school in Frontier and finished her high school at SLBI (now LCBI) in Outlook, SK. Following her graduation from Bible School she worked at the Bible Book Store in Outlook for a period which she thoroughly enjoyed. Arlene attended Nurses Training in Saskatoon at City Hospital for three years becoming a Registered Nurse in 1956. She worked as a nurse for many years at Frontier Hospital and later as matron of Frontier Hospital. She married Martin Christensen in 1957 on June 28 and together they settled on the Andrew Skoglund farm just south of Frontier where they were blessed with five children. Arlene honored and cherished “Marty” the love of her life for 54 years. In the fall of 1987, Arlene left the farm home she loved to answer the call of God with her husband to the parish ministry first at the AFLC Seminary Bible School then to Badger, Minnesota and then Elbow, SK. They returned to the farm in Frontier and lived there until her recent move in June to Cypress Lodge in Maple Creek, SK where she passed away peacefully. Arlene was much loved and appreciated wherever she went. Arlene loved her family dearly. Her love and faith in God was even stronger. She is now in glory with her Savior. Arlene was predeceased by her parents Joe and Anna Gilbertson, an infant brother, twin brother Arnold, sister Alice Kerr, and granddaughter Jayde Mikayla Swanson. She is survived by her loving husband Martin, her five children and fifteen grandchildren Beverley Swanson (Dale) of Camrose, Alberta (Brendyn and Keysha); Joel Christensen (Liz) of Frontier (Timothy, Suzy Krause (Barclay) and Elise); Lowell Christensen (Cindy) of Sherwood Park, Alberta (Lauren, Katelyn and Taylor);Shannon Hundeby (Ken) of Elbow, Saskatchewan (Luke, Hannah, Sarah and Leah); and Deidre Jenson (Joel) of Thorne Bay, Alaska (Luther, Amy and Ian). Arlene leaves to cherish her memory her sister Edith Dumontel of Frontier as well as her extended family and numerous nieces and nephews.
