Bonang, Michael David “Mike” — age 52, of Newport Corner, Hants County. It was with great sadness we announced Michael’s sudden passing on Monday, August 8, 2011, at his home. Born on October 22, 1958, in Windsor, Hants County, Nova Scotia, Michael spent all his working life with DND Halifax and was just starting to countdown to retirement. Mike was an active member of the Newport United Church, Brooklyn, which allowed him to indulge in one of his great loves: playing the organ. His greatest passion was genealogy and in this pursuit he spent his spare time travelling the back roads of Nova Scotia, visiting cemeteries, archives and churches. Michael is survived by his parents, Faye (Tretheway) and Danny Bonang of Newport Corner; brothers, Kevin (Kathy) Bonang, Avondale; Danny (Ann) Bonang, Sydney; Phillip (Susan) Bonang, Newport Corner; sister, Penny (Chris) Richards, Truro; nine nephews, Tony, Tim, Andrew, Jeremy, and Nick Bonang; Matthew, Nathan, Joel, and Aaron Richards; three grandnephews, Daniel, Damien and Seth Bonang. Besides his family, Michael will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him and most especially his pets and closest friends, Bruce Wile, Craig Chambers and Garnet Parker. No gathering will be the same without his endless jokes, stories and his talent for baking homemade pies. Cremation has taken place. Visitation was 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, August 11, in Lindsay’s Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor. Funeral service was 2 p.m. Friday, August 12, 2011, in Lindsay`s Windsor Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Marilyn MacDonald, Rev. Garnet Parker and Peggy Spicer officiated, followed by a reception in the Lindsay Family Reception Centre. Interment was held in the Ste. Croix Cemetery, St. Croix, Hants County. Family flowers only. Donations in memory of Michael were requested to be made to the Meander Cemetery Society (c/o Doris MacLearn, R.R. 1 Ellershouse, B0N 1L0); the Multiple Sclerosis Society Atlantic Division (109 Ilsley Ave., Unit 1, Dartmouth, B3B 1S8); or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
