Adele Osborn

We are saddened to announce the death on August 16th of Adele Evangeline Osborn (nee Lortie), age 95, of Tatamagouche, NS, and formerly from Montreal, Lachute, QC, and Amherst, NS, occurred on Tuesday, August 16, 2011, at Willow Lodge in Tatamagouche, N.S.
Born in Montreal on May 28, 1916, she was a daughter of the late L. Philippe and Rebecca (Lanctot) Lortie.
Adele well be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Beverley (Blois) Hennigar, Amherst; son, Jonathan (Karen), Germantown, IL, U.S.A., sister Loula Gordon of Montreal; brother Dan (Grace Budrys), Chicago, IL, U.S.A.; grandchildren Craig, Susan, Dale, Jonathan, Heather, Patrick, Kate and Stephanie; great grandchildren Lauren, Allie, Jillian, Bridget, Russell, Brooke, Brittany, Spencer, Flash and Lotus, as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Her husband, Albert Vaughan and sister Pauline Smith predeceased her.
We are grateful for the skilled and loving staff of Willow Lodge who provided compassionate care for Adele during her lengthy struggle with Alzheimer’s. It was always a joy to visit her and experience the creativity and thoughtfulness of her caregivers. Our family and friends were always treated with exceptional respect and kindness.
Adele was a graduate of McGill University, earning degrees in Arts and Music. She was an accomplished athlete, soloist, choir member, and educator, who taught at Elmgrove Elementary, St. Laurent High School, Winston Churchill High School and subsequently was appointed Head of the French Department for the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal. In this role she was responsible for curriculum development, teacher training, and the introduction of French Immersion and the use of Language Labs. A devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend to many, she had a long and rewarding life -- an inspiration to all who knew her.
A celebration of Adele’s life will take place Friday, August 19, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity-St. Stephen’s United Church, 1 Ratchford Street, Amherst, with Rev. Susan Estabrooks officiating.
Adele will be laid to rest beside her husband, Vaughan, in the St. Aidan Cemetery in Louisa, QC, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Adele’s memory may be made to Willow Lodge, 100 Blair Road, Tatamagouche, NS, B0K 1V0, or the Alzheimer’s Society.
