Born February 18, 1924 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the fourth of ten children, passed away surrounded by love of family on August 9, 2011 at Winchester House, Libertyville, IL.

Jack is survived by his wife Velma and their five children, John, Glen (Vickie), Donald (Penni), Peggy (John) Shannon, and Nancy (Kevin) Penne, sixteen grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. He is also survived by sisters Mary Thomas and Pat Pyevach of Kamloops and brother Ken Stewart of White Rock as well as sisters-in-law and numerous nephews and nieces, all of whom will miss Uncle Jack.

Jack was predeceased by parents W.R. and May M. Stewart of Kamloops, sister Kathleen Maskell , brothers Bill, Gordon, Frank, Bob, and Doug.

Jack was raised in Kamloops and attended K.S.S. where he is a member of that school's Hall of Fame. After leaving school Jack earned his wings in the R.C.A.F. He returned to Kamloops and he and Velma (Home) were married on September 7, 1948. Jack attended UBC where he earned an M.A .in Agriculture. He then earned his Ph.D. in Agronomy at UW Madison and subsequently joined International Minerals and Chemicals and located to Libertyville IL., where he stayed until his retirement in 1989 after 24 years with IMC.

While with IMC Jack was honored to serve the U.S. when asked to work on President Reagan's Private Sector Survey on Cost Control for the US Dept. of Agriculture. He was a recipient of the Soil Science Provincial Service Award and also a Fellow of the American Society of Agronomy. Jack travelled extensively for IMC (52 countries) with his research and farming methods, making many friends along the way.

To celebrate Jack's Life a Memorial Service was held on Tuesday, August 16th, 2011 at the First Presbyterian Church, 219 Maple Ave., Libertyville, IL. To honor Jack, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org), Operation Eyesight (www.operationeyesight.ca), or the charity of your choice.
