NOTENBOOM - Pleun Pieter, of Swift Current, SK, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2011 at the Cypress Regional Hospital in Swift Current, SK at the age of 63 years. Pleun was born March 9, 1948 in Numansdorp, Netherlands to Jacobus and Maartje Notenboom. He was educated at Herchmer/Martin Collegiate in Regina, SK. On March 28, 1970 he married Gaylene Ann Evans at the St. James United Church in Lumsden, SK. Pleun was involved in many clubs and organizations in the communtities he lived in including being a Boy Scout Leader from 1969-1986, member of the Masonic Lodge, the Swift Current (Wa Wa Shrine), Maple Creek Curling Club, Success Curling Club, Swift Current Curling Club and the Good Samaritans. In addition he had many other interests including golf, curling, camping, Roughrider Football and Blue Jays Baseball, tools and home renovations, reading (especially westerns), playing cards (cribbage) and chess, and travelling to Mesa, Arizona. Pleun was very compassionate. He loved the outdoors, animals, music and sports. He deeply involved himself in his work in many capacities and in his community through the Shrine Club, various curling clubs and Scouts. Pleun leaves to mourn his passing: his wife Gaylene; sons Rob (Krista) and Chris; grandchildren Hanna and Natalia; sister Margaret (Graham) Milton; brother Peter (Joan) Notenboom; sister Emmy (Chuck) Hawkins; sister Cindy (Ed) White; brother Dirk (Bev) Gettle; mother-in-law Maureen Evans and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents Jacobus (Aug 23, 2001) and Maartje (November 10, 2003) Notenboom. Funeral services were held on Friday, August 26, 2011 at 2:00 pm from the Grace United Church, Swift Current, SK with Reverend Bonita Chad officiating. Graham Milton presented the eulogy, Larry and Bev Caswell performed a special musical tribute and an Honor Guard was formed by members of the Wa Wa Shrine and Masonic Lodge. Donations in Pleun's memory may be made to The Shrines Hospital for Children Canada, to The Wa Wa Shrine Temple or to the Cypress Hills Scout Camp.
