1929 - 2011. Passed away peacefully at his residence in Torbay, N.L. on Friday August 26, 2011 surrounded by his loving family and friends after a brave battle with cancer. He has left to mourn his wife of 58 years, Barbara (Long) and his 10 children: Bernadette (Boyde), Victor (Alma), Rosalia (Jim), Jerome (Darlene), Philomena (Sylvain), Alfred (Rebecca), Margaret (Harry), John (Angela), Anthony (Patrick) and Jacqueline (Stephen); 18 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren and many family and friends. Born in Bay d'Espoir on May 5, 1929, he was the son of the late John William Sutton and Catherine (Foote) Sutton and one of 13 siblings: Mary Amelia (deceased), George, Florence (deceased), Joseph (deceased), Denis (deceased), Alfred, Wallace, Clarence, Catherine, Elmer and Christopher. He built his life as a carpenter, a doting husband, and a devoted father. His later years were enjoyed with Barbara travelling throughout Canada, relishing his family and friends and rarely missing the opportunity for a game of cards or darts. He found delight through an active lifestyle whether it be tending his garden or touring the bays and coves of his beloved Newfoundland and Labrador. He leaves behind a wide circle or friends and will be dearly missed. Visitation will be held at Hynes' Coast of Bays Funeral Home, St. Alban's on Sunday August 28 from 10 am-12 noon, 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 29, 2011 at 10 am at St. Ignatius R. C. Church, St. Alban's with Father Edward Brophy officiating. Interment will follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, St. Alban’s. Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to Hynes’ Coast of Bays Funeral Home, St. Alban’s.
