Jean Gillis, age 54 of Wilson Avenue, New Waterford, passed away on Saturday, August 27th, 2011 at her residence after a lengthy battle with cancer.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Antionette (Chiasson) Deveaux.
Jean worked as an R.N. for over 30 years at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital. She loved going for walks with her dog and had a great passion for dancing. Jean was known for her hardy laugh and great sense of humor.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Alisha (Mark) McGillivray, P.E.I., her partner, Al McNeil and his children, Nicole and Allister; one brother, Louie (Eileen), New Hampshire; one sister, Marie Bass (Dick), Mass., USA; and one grandson, Luke McGillivray.
Jean was predeceased by two sisters, Josephine ‘Finn’ Deveaux and Annie ‘Baba’ Melanson.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home in New Waterford. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard's Church, Mt. Carmel Avenue. Interment in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. All are invited for fellowship at the K of C Hall, Plummer Avenue.
As an expression of sympathy for Jean, memorial donations in her memory may be made to palliative care or a charity of one's choice.
