THOMPSON - Flora Roberta Thompson of Eastend, SK passed away on August 31, 2011 at the Eastend Wolf Willow Health Centre in Eastend, SK. She was born at Keeler, SK on October 27, 1915 and attended Wilson School until 1925 when her family moved to their farm near Caron, SK. She completed her schooling at Caron and then attended Davidson Business College in Moose Jaw. After completing her Business Course, she was employed by the Government of Saskatchewan in Regina. She met Clarence Thompson in Regina where they were married in 1943. Following Clarence’s discharge from the Army, they moved to Webb, SK where they resided until moving to Tompkins, SK . In Tompkins they owned and operated Henry’s Store with their partners Mae and Joe Noland. In 1960 the family moved to Eastend purchasing and operating The Cypress Hotel until their retirement in 1967. Flora was a member of the Order of The Eastern Star and of The Ladies Auxiliary of The Royal Canadian Legion. Flora was an avid knitter and crocheter. In her younger years loved curling and later watching curling on TV or at the rink. Flora always enjoyed a good game of cards. Flora lived in her home in Eastend until November of 2010, at which time she moved to Eastend Wolf Willow Health Centre. Flora was a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister and will be lovingly missed by her daughter, Darleen (Don) Pearson of Eastend, her son Gordon (Norma) Thompson of Warman, SK, her five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and her brother Hank McDowell of Moose Jaw, SK as well as by numerous nieces and nephews. Flora was predeceased by her husband, Clarence (1993), her parents Charles and Mary (Watson) McDowell, brother James and sisters Nell (Ken) Dalrymple, Etta (Alex) Rowe, Agretta McDowell, Mae (Bill) Page and Agnes McDowell. For those wishing, memorial donations may be made to Cypress Health District for Eastend Wolf Willow Health Centre or to the Eastend United Church. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from Eastend United Church with Reverend Ken Schrag officiating. Interment at Riverside Cemetery at Eastend preceded the service. Binkley’s Funeral Service of Shaunavon (www.Binkleys.com) was in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers were Gary McDowell, Garnet Rowe, Bruce Pearson and Walter Pearson.
