Shelby Beryl Phillips, 17, Moose Jaw, Sask., formerly of Port Hawkesbury and Sydney, N.S., passed away suddenly on Friday, Sept. 2, 2011 at Regina General Hospital, as the result of a motor vehicle accident.
Shelby was a grade 12 student at Peacock Collegiate, and she worked as a cashier at Superstore. She loved music, dancing, photography, her cell phone, the beach, camping, and her dog and cat, Missy and Katie.
A beautiful soul has left us. Shelby could light up the room with her sweet smile and mischievous brown eyes. She was kind, thoughtful and quick to open her heart to anyone she met during her short life; and in death her eyes, tissue and heart valves have been donated in order to improve the lives of others.
Shelby will be sadly missed by her mom, Kim MacDonald, and her stepfather, Andrew Archibald, Moose Jaw, Sask.; father, Charles Phillips (Catherine MacLean), Sydney N.S.; maternal grandparents, Beryl and Donald MacLeod, (Nanno and Poppa), Port Hastings, N.S.; paternal grandparents, Shirley Phillips, Sydney, N.S.; David Phillips, New Waterford, N.S.; She also leaves behind her aunts and uncles, and their families, Bobby (Kelly) MacDonald, Bible Hill; Gary (Shelley) MacDonald, Dale (LeeAnn) MacDonald, both of Windsor, Ont.; Lydia (John) Reynolds, Moncton; Hank (Wendy) Phillips, Mulgrave; David (Kim) Phillips, Port Hawkesbury; Kim (Ricky) Monk, Sheet Harbour; Norma (Travis) Snow, Mulgrave; Dawn Phillips, Reserve Mines; Cathy MacLeod (Jeff Pilote), Dartmouth; Brent (Mary) MacLeod, Sugarcamp; Wayne (Angela) MacLeod, Moncton; as well as her many friends in Moose Jaw and Cape Breton.
Shelby was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Carl MacDonald, and her aunt, Joyce Phillips.
A time of remembrance for Shelby was held in Moose Jaw on Monday, Sept. 5. Visitation for Shelby will be held Thursday, Sept. 8, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral service will be Friday, Sept. 9, at 2 p.m. from St. David’s United Church, Port Hastings, with Nan Corrigan D.M. officiating. Cremation to follow.
For those wishing to do so, memorial donations in Shelby’s memory may be made to the Whitney Pier Youth Club, or the local S.P.C.A.
Funeral arrangements for Shelby, are under the care and direction of the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury.
