Bertha May LUSH
September 9th, 1934 – September 5th, 2011

After a brave battle with cancer, Bertha passed away on Monday, September 5, 2011 at her home in Gambo, Newfoundland, peacefully, with family by her side. Bertha was born on Bragg’s Island September 9, 1934, the eldest child of George and Eliza Ann Oram. She leaves behind sisters Effie (Ralph) of Port aux Basques and Geraldine (David) and brothers Clyde (Margaret), Elias (Evelyn) of Glovertown and Harry (Agnes) of Keswick, ON. Predeceased by husband George, Bertha also leaves to mourn her three daughters, Geraldine (Sherry) Lush of Mount Pearl, Nita (Ken) Abbott, Debbie, and her eight sons, Lloyd (Mae), Wilfred, Larry (Velma) Glovertown, Carl (Gwen), Alex (Paulus) and Dwight, Perry (Louise) Ajax, ON, Craig (Susie) and two very special friends in this life and the next, Emma Bennett and Mildred Barclay. She was a dearly loved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. Her spirit and vitality for life were remarkable, especially as she waged her final battle against cancer. Bertha was so very grateful for the love and compassion shown by family and friends through their visits and assistance as her health failed. Special thanks to Betty and George Badcock, Pearce Mullett, Florence Lush, and Phyllis Pritchett whose visits warmed her heart and brightened her days and of course to Neta Hunt whose compassion and care carried her through her final days. The expertise, kindness and support provided by Neta was exceptional and meant so much to all of us. Funeral Service will take place at the Salvation Army, Gambo Thursday, September 8th at 2:00pm.
