It is with great sorrow, that we, the family, announce the passing of our loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Archie Ford, at the age of 76. Archie passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney.
Born in Glace Bay, and a longtime resident of Norwood Street, Archie was the son of the late Edward Francis and Helen (Whiting) Ford.
Archie worked at Highland Fisheries for 40 years. He also did carpentry work and was the icemaker at the Glace Bay Forum.
He was a member of St. Anne’s Church.
Archie loved woodworking and was an avid sports fan; his favourite sport being hockey. But mostly, Archie will be remembered as a happy go lucky man, ready to help and assist those in need.
Archie is survived by four daughters, Heather (David), Mary (Robert), Kathryn (T. Thomas), Colleen (Rod); and three sons, Archie, David and Kevin (Cheryl). He is survived by five brothers, Jerry (Barb), Georgia, U.S.A., James, Boston, Hyles (Girlie), Rocky (Thelma), Glenn (Linda), all in Glace Bay; and three sisters, Frances (Bill), Delores (Mick) and Alice (Jerry). Archie is survived by 20 grandchildren, Michael, Mitchell, Kaitlyn, Joshua, Nicholas, Cody, Bryceson, Kayla, Jordon, Liam, Michael, Matthew, Kevin, Jennifer, Justin, Kurt, Garrin, Ashton, Shealeigh, Logan and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Mary Ford.
Archie was predeceased by one son, Danny, four brothers, Art, Sidney, Paul, Danny and one granddaughter, Kathleen.
Visitation will be held today (Friday) from 7-9 p.m. in the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve St., Glace Bay. Cremation to follow. The funeral mass, officiated by Rev. Leo Boone, is Monday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Anne’s Church followed by interment in the parish cemetery and a reception in the church foyer.
As an expression of sympathy for Archie, memorial donations in his memory may be made to palliative care (An Cala Unit), Sydney.
