It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our husband, father, grandfather and brother John MacNeil Sr., at the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg, MB on September 4, 2011.
John will be greatly missed by his wife of 41 years Cora (nee Galeon) and their four children, Fil (Helen), Dan (Alison), John (Rowena) and Brigitte (Jason) and all 11 grandchildren.
John was born in Florence, NS to Neil and Mary MacNeil of Sydney Mines, NS on January 7, 1944, the fifth of 10 children and one of a pair with his twin sister Elizabeth.
John was predeceased by his parents and younger brother James and is survived by his brothers and sisters Dan (Hope), Peter (Elva), Mary (Harold), Elizabeth, Vaughnie (Jude), Theresa (Don), Sara (John), Audrey (Lawrence) and his many nieces and nephews.
John grew up in Sydney Mines and was always surrounded by family and friends, which may have been why he was always so open and welcoming to all. John's generosity was known by many and he could never refuse a person in need. He received his degree at St. Francis Xavier University and then followed his older brother Dan's footsteps out west to Manitoba to live and teach.
Lamay/Viewing and Celebration of his Life was held in Winnipeg on September 7th and September 9th.
