We regret to announce the passing of Aloysius ‘Wishie’ MacNeil. He was born January 27, 1938 to the late Mary M. ‘Big Alex’ (Aker) MacNeil of Iona. He died on October 13, 2009, at Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck.
He is survived by his wife, Margie MacNeil; nieces and nephews, Joanne Gillis, Orangedale, Larry (Murdell) MacNeil, Iona, Sandy (Ann Marie) MacNeil, Iona and Ethel Young, P.E.I. He is also survived by his sister, Diane Leader, Truro; stepdaughter, Debbie MacLeod, Sydney and stepson, Scott MacLeod, Edmonton, AB; grandchildren, Jordan MacLeod, Jessica MacLeod, both of Sydney, Ryan MacLeod, Edmonton, AB. His grandnieces and nephews, Ryan, Amy, Tyler, Nikki, Riley, Ben and Jordan referred to him as “Uncle Wishie”.
Besides his mother, he was predeceased by brother, John F. MacNeil.
Wishie was known for his creativity. He was a very keen craftsman. His “Theodore Tugboat” and ferry boat were often admired by tourists and locals alike. He truly enjoyed Scottish music.
Special thanks to the nursing staff and doctors at Victoria County Memorial Hospital, Baddeck and the Cape Breton Cancer Center, Sydney. Their caring, their jokes, their overall kindness and compassion will always be remembered.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of MacAskill Funeral Home, Baddeck.
Visitation for the late Wishie MacNeil will be held at St. Columba Parish Centre on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009 from 7-9 p.m. The funeral will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at 11 a.m. at St. Columba Church, Iona, with interment to follow in the parish cemetery.
Family flowers only. Donations, if you wish, may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Society or Palliative Care Society.
