It is with deep regret that we the family announce the passing of Jake Hawco on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney surrounded by his family.
Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late Alexander and Edith (MacDonald) Hawco.
He was a member of St. Augustine’s parish, where he sang and played in the choir for many years. He was the lead vocalist and guitar player with the Lancers and the Executives.
Jake was employed by Stott Aluminum for 46 years until sickness required him to retire.
Jake is survived by his wife, Theresa (Giorno); his children, Dianna (Robert) Bennett, Joy (Wayne) Koziel, John (Karen) and Francis (Marjorie); six grandchildren, Ashley Bennett, Ryley Hawco, Lindsay Koziel, Kortney Hawco, Sara Bennett and Jeffrey Koziel; two sisters, Dawn (Ron) MacDonald, Terry Gale; brothers, Jimmy, Bobby (Michelle) and Louis; as well as niece, Carman (Steve) Erickson.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Karen Barrett, Sandra Spears, and brother, Billie.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at the S.W. Chant & Son Funeral Home, 564 Alexandra St., Sydney, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A memorial service will take place 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, 2011, at St. Theresa’s Church, with Fr. James Oliver officiating.
