The death of Mildred Esther Leslie, 80, of Westmount, happened peacefully, with her family at her side, on Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Born Nov. 5, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Corbett and Agnes Polley of Sydney.
Millie is survived by her husband of 52 years, Lauchie; children, Wendy (Raymond) Coombs, Sydney River, Cathy (Wayne) Walker, Sudbury, Billy, B.C., Beth (Stewart) Latwaitis, Red Deer, Donnie (Debbie) Sydney; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by sisters, June Horn, Detroit and Ruth Harmer, Ontario and many other family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a daughter, Melissa, in infancy; sisters, Jean Davis, Jessie MacDonald, Kaye Muggah and Ruth Duffney; brothers, Murray Alexander and Ernie and Art Polley.
Millie was well known for her dedication to minor hockey and baseball over the years. In her later years, she was dedicated to Saving the RCMP, a passion she held dearly. More recently, she devoted herself for caring for her loving son, Donnie who suffered a severe accident. She could always be found collecting and trading coins. She was always passionate about whatever she took on.
There will be no visitation. A Celebration of Life will be held at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Thursday 7 p.m., with Rev. Robert Bigger officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Cape Breton Cancer Center or Palliative Care at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
