LINACY – Leonard Alvin “Len” Knickle, 82, Linacy, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 1, 2011 in the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit, New Glasgow, surrounded by his family.
Born in Shelburne, he was a son of the late Alvin and Gladys Knickle. Len enjoyed and had fond memories of growing up in Lockport. Prior to retirement, he had been employed with Michelin Tire, Granton, since the plant opened. In earlier years , he had been employed with the former Eastern Woodworkers, New Glasgow. He had been a member, Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent of the former Calvary Temple Church, New Glasgow. Len enjoyed volunteering with the Shepherd’s Lunch Room and fishing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great - grandfather, brother, uncle , friend and Papa to all.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Beatrice “Bea” (Tate); children, Vinetta (Everett) Porter, Moncton; Leonard (Jane) Knickle, Little Harbour; Becky (Reggie) DeCoste, Monastery; Leamund Knickle, Linacy; sisters, Ella (Malcolm) Clark, Halifax; Jane Knickle, Hamilton, Ont.; Murray (Vickie), Hamilton, Ont.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by sister, Marie Roach; brother, Jimmy Knickle; grandson, Lennie Knickle.
The family will receive visitors 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday in P. & K. MacDonald Funeral Home, New Glasgow from where funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday in the chapel with Rev. Helen Christie officiating. Interment will be in Woodburn Cemetery.
Donations may be made in his memory to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
