Sophia Horyl (Adams)

Born In: Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom

Passed in: Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: October 6th, 2011

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Sophia (Adams) Horyl at Glace Bay Hospital on Thursday, October 6, 2011, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Glasgow, Scotland she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes Adams.
In her younger years Sophia enjoyed spending time with her three sisters. She proudly belonged to the ATS, a division of the British Army during World War II. It was here she met Frank Horyl, serving for the Canadian Army and they were happily married for 57 years. As one of Canada's war brides, Sophie travelled on the Queen Mary to Pier 21 in Halifax, NS
A beloved mother and grandmother, Sophia was happiest when she was surrounded by her family. She will be remembered for her bright and happy manner, always gently humming and enjoying stories over tea. She took joy in her home and loved to travel. Sophia had a kind heart and will be missed by all who knew her.
Sophia will be sadly missed by her daughters, Joan Dalton (Hamilton), Colleen (Kevin) Parsons, Waterloo and sons Frank (Margaret) and Joseph, both of New Waterford; and her precious grandchildren Heather (Adam), Carolann, Ashley (Thomas) and Christina (Chris). She is also survived by her sister Agnes (Nan) Macdonald, Michigan.
Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her husband, Frank and sisters Martha Alexander and Mary Eden.
Cremation has taken place and visitation will be held, Friday, October 7th from 7-9 p.m. with a chapel service on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at 11 a.m. with Father Ray Huntley officiating in MacLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183, Plummer Ave., New Waterford, 862-7500. A reception will follow in the funeral home and burial will take place in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens.
Donations to a charity of one's choice would be appreciated by the family.
A special thank you to Dr. Kevin McNeil and the nursing staff at the ICU Glace Bay Hospital for the wonderful compassion and care given to our mother.
