It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our father, grandfather and uncle Austin ‘Bud’ W. Jennex, 84, a resident of the Veteran’s Wing of the Harbour View Hospital, Sydney Mines, and formerly of North Sydney on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at the hospital.
Born in North Sydney, Bud was the son of the late Ogle and Emily (Conrad) Jennex.
He was a veteran of the Second World War serving in the Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders and took part in the liberation of Holland. Bud was an Honourary member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #19 and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, North Sydney. Bud was a bricklayer by trade working in construction. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, he was friendly to everyone he met and was always ready with a joke. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Bud is survived by his seven children, his four sons, George ‘Bill’ (Anna), Quesnel, B.C., Wayne (Julie), Penticton, B.C., Alvin (Lori), Strathmore, Alta., Stephen (Lee), Vancouver; his three daughters, Cheryl ‘Sherry’ (Steve) Tuson, St. Albert, Alta., Karen (Gary) Forrest, and Janice (Glen) Bartlett, both of North Sydney; his 22 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.
Bud was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Gladys Pearl Osmond, his granddaughter, Rhonda, his sisters, Lily, Mary, Myrtle and Mabel and brothers, Gerald and Herbert.
Visitation for Bud will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in the W.J. Dooley Funeral Home, 107 Pleasant St., North Sydney. Funeral service to be held 2 p.m. Friday at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. John Hannem officiating. Cremation to follow with burial in Lakeside Cemetery, North Sydney at a later date.
Memorial donations may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Diabetes Association or a charity of choice.
