Kenneth H. Smith
SMITH, Kenneth H. - 61 years young, North Salem, it is with heavy hearts that Ken’s life journey has taken a new path where he will “pave the way” for his best friend and loving wife of 36 years, Lynn and cherished son, Michael and join his dear father Gerald and niece Jessica. Ken died peacefully and with great dignity at home Thursday, October 6, 2011 in the arms of his loved ones. Ken is survived by his beloved mother, Pauline, Truro; much loved brothers Robert (Joanne), North Salem, Stephen (Joanne), Brampton, Ont.; loving sister-in-law Angela Clark (Michael), Orleans, Ont.; and brother-in-law John Verlaeckt (Kim), Lethbridge, Alt.; aunts Helen Smith, Truro; Kathryn Upham, Saskatoon, Sask.; and Hazel Smith, Pictou. His sage advice and wisdom will be deeply missed by his nieces Leanne, Debbie and Lauralee, nephews Dana, Jeremy, Jamie, Travis, Jan, and Matthew as well as his cousins and best friends. Ken farmed for 25 years and one of his proudest achievements was to return to college at age 57, with his son, and have them both graduate from the IT program. We would like to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. L. Pelly, Dr. Padmore and the Palliative Care team of Dr. Smith and Dawn Martell for their exceptional care and support and to the VON nurses, especially, Tasha, Linda, and Janet for their TLC and compassion. Cremation has taken place. There will be a celebration of Ken’s life at 2pm, Tuesday, October 11, 2011, in Ettinger Funeral Home, 2812 Highway 2, Shubenacadie. As Ken and Lynn loved to spend their free time working in their flower gardens and watching the wildlife, memorials donations may be made to Hope for Wildlife Society, Seaforth, Nova Scotia or Hospice Colchester East Hants. If you prefer to send flowers Ken would more than enjoy them. Family and friends may send condolences to the family at: ettingerfuneralhome.com
