O'LEARY, RONALD "RONNY" - It is with great sadness the family of Ronald “Ronny” O’Leary announce his sudden passing on Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital. He was 64. Born in Fredericton on October 6, 1947, he was a beloved father of Scott, Tammy and Jody. Graduating from F.H.S. in 1966, he started to work as a letter carrier for Canada Post in January 1967. He carried mail for 35 years in a job he loved. Ronny was very active all his life especially in sports. He played hardball, softball and hockey. His passion turned to umpiring with over 35 years behind the plate. He was a Level 4 Fast Pitch and a Level 4 Slow Pitch. He was an avid gardener and loved woodworking. Ronny loved hunting and fishing and his grandchildren were the apple of his eyes and that’s all he talked about while visiting his mum and dad over a cup of tea. Ronny will be sadly missed by his parents Albert and Shirley (Lewis) O’Leary of Fredericton, daughter Tammy (O’Leary) Burns of Fredericton and sons Scott O’Leary (Carolann) of Fall River, N.S. and Jody O’Leary (Ann Marie Villneff) of Fredericton. His five grandchildren, Zackary, Alisyn, Kathleen, Violet O’Leary and Brianna Burns will dearly miss “Grampy Hockey”. Ronny is also survived by brothers Wayne, his twin brother Johnny (Bonnie Young) and Danny (Heather) as well as many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive condolences at Bishop’s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road on Sunday, October 16, 2011 from 2-4 P.M. and 7-9 P.M. A celebration of Ronny’s life will be held Monday, October 17 at 2:00 PM from Smythe Street Cathedral, 913 Smythe Street, Fredericton with Rev. Wayne Flowers officiating. Pallbearers will be Trevor O'Leary, Zackary O'Leary, Lindsay O'Leary, Chris O'Leary, Murray Patterson and Rick Russell. Interment will be private and at a later date. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Canadian Tire Jump Start Program or to a charity of your choice.
