1948-2011, beloved husband of 40 years of Cheryl (nee Dykes) passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2011 in Calgary at the age of 63 years. He will be dearly missed by their grandchildren, Geneva, Paris, Henry, Gwendelynn, Patrick, and Michael. He will also be remembered by their children Bruce (Michelle) Houlden, Colleen (Robert) Whitley, and Karen (Jason) Park, his brothers and sister, his father Bruce (aka BC), extended families, and many friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Marion, in 2009. Dale spent his first years on the family farm at Carrot River, Saskatchewan. He moved with his family to Red Deer while still in elementary school. In his final year of school, he was the Student's Union President at the Red Deer Vocational School. Dale started his working life in the grocery industry. He was the produce manager in Red Deer, Wainwright, and Rocky Mountain House; while in Rocky he became interested in the oilfield industry. He began gas-well testing with Vanir Engineering before deciding wire-line operations was the way to go. He joined Camco International (later bought by Schlumberger) and traveled the world for the next 37 years troubleshooting and/or sharing his knowledge wherever oil was being produced. He took his family to Alaska and Singapore before settling them back in Alberta. Dale then spent many years in the USSR and Kazakhstan and more recently in Newfoundland and Red Deer. After retiring and taking some time off, Dale was just getting his consulting company started up when cancer stopped this venture. Dale never met a stranger; he was interested in everyone he met and made friends around the world. Dale was passionate about his family and thoroughly enjoyed passing on his love of John Deere to his grandchildren. They know that the best tractors are green!
