Rolfe, James Arthur "Jim" — 85, of Bramber, Hants County, passed away on Friday, October 14, 2011 at Hants Community Hospital in Windsor. Born on June 28, 1926 in Windsor, he was the son of the late Lillian (Rolfe) Sanford. Jim was raised by his maternal grandmother, the late Isabelle Rolfe, wife of Francis Rolfe, in Bramber, where he had lived most of his life. Jim joined the army at a young age and later joined the Merchant Marines, sailing on several ships, his most loved being the Lady Rodney. After leaving the Merchant Marines he worked in Toronto at T. Eaton where he met his wife, Esther, of 59 years. They moved back to Bramber where they raised their five children on the family farm. Jim worked in the Barite mine in Walton and later for Fundy Construction in Halifax. Jim had many interests: gardening, fishing, bee keeping, building ships in bottles, and will always be remembered as a storyteller of his world travels. Jim will be sadly missed by his son, Roger (Mary Anne) Rolfe, Peggy's Cove; daughters, Patricia (Lyle) Brown, Sweets Corner; Cheryl (David) Millard, Union Corner; Wendy (Peter) Aalders, South Farmington; 10 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; brothers, Reginald, Maxwell and Marsden Sanford; sisters, Dorothy Boysworth, Geraldine Harlow, Winnifred Stephens, Shirley Passerelli, Delores Beers, all of the United States. Jim was predeceased by his wife, Esther; daughter, Karen; sister, Maxine Sanford, and brothers, Donald and Robert Sanford. Arrangements were entrusted to Lohnes-DeMont Funeral and Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A private family only service was held Monday, October 17 in the funeral home chapel, with interment in Bramber Cemetery. The family welcomed friends to gather with them at the family home on Monday, October 17 from 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jim may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Nova Scotia Division, 5826 South St., Halifax, NS B3H 1S6 (1-800-639-0222) or a charity of one's choice.
