ALLEN, A. Eileen - With hearts full of sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. After a 2 year battle with cancer, Eileen Allen passed away at home on Friday, October 21, 2011 surrounded by her loving family. Born in 1930 in Diligent River, she was the daughter of the late Chap and Florence (Read) Canning. Our
mother was an energetic woman, who never shied away from hard work whether indoors or out. She was a volunteer for and a trustee of the Diligent River Community Hall since 1974. She will be missed by all who knew her and whose lives she touched. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting as well as playing 63's, 45's cribbage and Skip-Bo, jigsaw puzzles, crypto quote and washer toss. Eileen is survived by daughters, Gale Boland (Rod); Marjorie Canning (Brian), all of Diligent River; sons, Ronnie (Judi) Allen, Diligent River; Kenny, Amherst; Frankie (Joy), Parrsboro. She was also blessed with 11 grandchildren, Michelle, Tricia, Allen, Kristin, Matthew, Marci, Bradley, Travis, Evan, Alysha and Audrey; as well as 2 great-granddaughters, Ainslie and Kaylee. Eileen is also survived by sisters, Jessie, Janet, Marjorie and Helen; and a brother Laurie. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence in 2010; a brother, Read and an infant sister, Doris. Mum never gave up and
maintained a cheerful attitude to the very end. She looked forward to visits from her VON, Heather Dyble to whom we are greatly indebted to and forever grateful. To honour Eileen's wishes, there was no visitation or funeral service. A private family committal service was held. Friends and family were invited to a reception at the Diligent River Community Hall on Monday, October 24, 2011 at noon. Memorial donations may be made to the Diligent River United Baptist Church, the Diligent River Community Hall Association or to the VON. Arrangements entrusted to Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro.
