It is with deep sadness that we, the family of Alex Brown, announce his passing on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at his residence.
Born in Glace Bay, May 11, 1945, Alex was the son of the late Murray and Margaret ‘Maggie’ (MacDonald) Brown.

Alex worked for a time as a coal miner and for the Glace Bay Water Department. He was also employed with McKinlay’s Pop Factory. Growing up in the heart of Caledonia (The Blocks), Alex played a variety of sports, both competitively and recreationally. Starting at the age of seven, he played Little League with the Highland Motor Giants for five years. Alex went on to play midget and juvenile baseball with teams from No. 11. In the mid 1960s, he was top-notch catcher for the Glace Bay Junior softball teams. Alex played broomball, billiards, darts and bowled for many years. He enjoyed a good game of cards and horseshoes with friends while sipping back his favourite “cola” beverage. He loved the fellowship and the telling of tall tales at his favourite local coffee shop where he defended his beloved Chicago Blackhawks and Toronto Blue Jays quite vocally.
