Carolyn Muriel (MacAlpine) Murphy, 65, of Duluth, Georgia, passed away Oct. 22, after a brave struggle with pancreatic cancer. She was surrounded by her sisters, husband and friends. Born in Hassetts, Digby County, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Carrie (Brooks) MacAlpine. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Rose, and brother, Charles. Carolyn worked a brief time in Halifax before transferring with CMHC to Santa Monica, Calif., where she lived for several years. From there, she moved to Ft. Wayne, Indiana, with her husband and then to Duluth where they resided for the past 38 years. She worked for several years for Osbourn Travel as a controller and was involved in real estate. She was an avid skier and sailor, and for many years she enjoyed the water and sailing on their boat in Clearwater, Fla. She loved to travel, cook and entertain family and friends. She was a kind, generous, caring, loving, sister, wife, aunt and cousin to many. She is survived by her husband, John Murphy, Duluth; sisters Hilda (Wallace) Mullen, New Tusket; Alice (Paul) Rigby, Alliston, Ont.; Betty (Ken Erskin) MacAlpine, Smith’s Cove; Marilyn (Ray) Whiting, Waterloo, Ont.; Anna Williams, Bedford; Gail (Claude) Comeau, Eel Lake; and brothers, George (Gertrude), Port Maitland; Jim (Ruth), Digby; Walter (Carol), Weymouth North; John (Dora), Digby; Alston (Peggy), Digby; Earl, Bridgewater; Howard (Edna), Saint John, N.B.; Kennnie, Digby; and many neices and nephews. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service held Oct. 26 in Duluth. A memorial service will be held Nov. 4 at 1:30 p.m. in Weymouth Church of Christ, Weymouth North. Burial will follow in Riverside Baptist Cemetery. Donations may be made to the Cancer Society for Pancreatic Cancer or charity of choice.
