PAMELA ACTON
Born In: Grenfell, Saskatchewan, Canada
Born: April 21st, 1962
Passed in: Scotch Creek, British Columbia, Canada
Passed on: October 27th, 2011
Pamela (nee MacKenzie) passed away on October 27th in her home in Scotch Creek, after a very brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Pam was born on April 21, 1962 in Grenfell, Sask and has lived in the Shuswap since 1977.
Pam is survived by her sons Scott and Mark Acton, her parents Malcolm and Auriel MacKenzie, brothers Aubrey (Laura) and Stewart (Bev), sisters Muriel (Wayne) Olsen, Sharon Butler and Karmen (Garth) Wale and will be missed by nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews too numerous to mention.
Pam was a graduate of Chase Secondary School, and then of the 1985 Cariboo College nursing program. She worked at both RIH Kamloops and at the Chase Health Center , but found that life at Captain's Village Marina, Finz Bar & Grill, working and raising two boys kept her busy enough, and she did not return to her nursing career.
She was a very involved parent and hockey mom when her boys were young, helping with hot lunches at the school and PTA, shuttling boys to hockey games and selling countless 50/50 tickets in freezing arenas.
Pam was also very involved in the community, and loved the Shuswap Lake area. She served on the board of the OCP and also the NS Chamber of Commerce and used all her energy and abilities to promote, support and encourage local businesses.
Deck n Dock was a business venture that Pam started with her friend Lynn Ewert in 2008, and she was able to use her amazing creative talents in displays and merchandising, and also her exquisite taste in buying to make these successful stores the "talk of the town"
Although Pam took on any task with much energy and zeal, her greatest joy came spending time with family and friends. She was extremely gifted in giving, and always knew exactly what to give. Whether it was a thoughtful gift, a kind word, or an encouraging kick in the pants, it was given with much love at just the right moment. Pam's friends and family can all look around them and the prettiest, neatest gifts that they treasure most likely came from Pam's huge heart.
A Celebration of Pam's life will be held at the Celista Community Hall on Sunday, November 6th at 2:00 p.m., with her brother, Stewart, and her father, Malcolm, officiating. Pam's wish was that no one would be afraid to cry or laugh at this gathering, but would come together to remember with love the time that we had together.
Pam had a keen sense of style and was never afraid to say exactly what she liked, so she has requested that all flowers be white! And I'm sure her daytimer would also remind us that the time change is on Sunday morning, so make sure you change your clocks.
