GRIFFITH, NORMAN - Norman B. Griffith, 89, of Newington, CT, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011. Born October 19, 1922, in St. John, he was a Newington resident since 1962. Mr. Griffith served in the Canadian Army during World War II. He was employed by St. John Shipbuilding Dry Dock and Ocean Steel as a fabricator, and retired from Standard Structural Steel, Newington. He is survived by a special friend, Carmen Manix of West Hartford, CT; two sons, David Griffith and his fiancée Rebecca Sokolowski of Frostproof, FL, and Gordon Griffith and his wife Carolyn of Lebanon, ME; four grandchildren, Louise Baker of Lake Forest, CA, Kevin Griffith of Aurora, CO, Kenneth Griffith and his wife Amy of Meriden, CT and William Griffith of Kennebunk, ME; two great grandsons and two great granddaughters; several nieces and nephews. Mr. Griffith is pre-deceased by his wife of 57 years, Elsie Best Griffith in 1999, and son Kenneth Griffith in 1968. The family greatly appreciates the services Mr. Griffith received through the VNA and Hospice.
His funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at the Newington Memorial Funeral Home, 20 Bonair Ave., Newington, with the Rev. Dr. Kenneth C. Brookes officiating. He will be laid to rest in Center Cemetery, Newington. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday morning from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Newington Memorial.
