It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and brother, James ‘Jim’ Rogers of New Haven on Nov. 12, 2011.
Born in Neil’s Harbour, he was a son of the late William and Katie (MacLeod) Rogers.
For several years he worked as a lighthouse keeper followed by working in the fishing industry until his retirement. He was an active member of the Royal Canadian Legion and a veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Dora (Buffett); children, Roger (Pauline), Norma (Jody), Danny (Darlene), Kay (Brian), Gordan (Doris), Gloria (Jack); grandchildren, Katelyn, Jordan, Amber, Daniel, Tyler, Natasha, Brandy, Amanda, Lori, Keriann and Stephanie; eight great-grandchildren; step-grandchildren, Nancy, Sarah, Daniel, Jimmy Lee and; five step-great-grandchildren; sister, Edna MacDonald; brother, Angus Rogers; along with several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his daughter, Norma Lorraine, brother, John Norman, sisters, Dinah Raftus, Christena Burns and Annie Raftus.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 12 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 2 p.m. Nov. 15 from St. Peter’s Presbyterian Church, Neil’s Harbour, Rev. Richie Robinson will officiate assisted by Rev. Warren Huestis. Burial in parish cemetery.
Our family would like to thank the administration and staff of the Cove Guest Home and Buchanan Memorial Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at the Buchanan Memorial Hospital or the Cove Guest Home, Sydney.
