Doris Gibson was born on March 21, 1931 in Albion Twp, Peel County (Bolton) Ontario. Doris passed away peacefully at the Special Care Home in Gull Lake, SK. She was predeceased by her husband Donald; son Paul, parents Hudson & Zella Wilson; stepmother Dorothy Wilson; brother David Wilson, and sister-in-law Evelyn Wilson. Doris is survived by her sons; Kent (Pat), Bentley (Jill), Bruce (Corinna) of Gull Lake; daughter Bette Jane (Raeburn) Jahnke of Tompkins; grandchildren: Becky (Randy), Curtis (Kyla) Brian, Craig, Raymond (Melissa), Jamie (Daryl), Elizabeth, Sheridan, Jaxon, Raeanne (Bradford), Derek (Cara); great-grandchildren: Easton, Mazzy, Kaleb, Avery, Hanna, Abbey, Douglas, Devin, Aiden, Elliot; siblings Beryl (Gordon Goodfellow), Bill (Gail) Wilson, Hudson (Eunice) Wilson and nieces and nephews. Doris was born and raised north of Bolton with her brothers and sister. She attended Castledurg Pubic School, Brampton High School and graduated St. Joseph’s Hospital, Toronto, Ontario in 1954 as a Registered Nurse. She married Donald Gibson that same year. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and very involved with the Bolton community. Doris and Don, with their children moved to Gull Lake in June of 1972 where they farmed. In January of 1978 they opened Gibson’s Texaco and ran it for 12 years, selling the business in October 2000. Again Doris was very busy in her community and served many banquets from her restaurant. She loved antiques and gardening. She attended numerous hockey games with her children and was often with her granddaughters when they figure skated. Doris became ill with dementia in 2001. She was able to remain in her home for a few years and then went to live in the Prairie Pioneer Lodge and then eventually back to Gull Lake Special Care Home. Many thanks and deep appreciation is extended to both homes for caring for mom. Your support and care were priceless. Doris will be deeply missed by her family and friends. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, November 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. from the Elks Hall in Gull Lake with Pastor Eleanor Rockabar officiating. The organist was Millie Spagrud and the ushers were Jan Cooke and Peggy Willman. A tribute to her mom was read by Bette Jane Jahnke. The pallbearers were: Derek Jahnke, Raymond Gibson, Curtis Gibson, Brian Gibson, Craig Gibson, Avery Gibson and Jaxson Gibson. The honorary pallbearers were all those who shared in her life.
