Bill Barry
Passed on: November 14th, 2011
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Barry on Monday, November 14th, 2011, at the Health Sciences Centre, age 58 years. Bill inspired all who met and knew him to live their lives to the fullest. His generosity of spirit and his love of life were boundless. As a friend he was always there with a helping hand and a knowledgeable ear. For Bill the true value of education was to challenge people to find different perspectives with which to look at their lives and the lives of the human beings around them. As a teacher he encouraged his students to seek and choose their own paths and to walk them with courage and confidence. In keeping with this philosophy he created and developed the internationally acclaimed Real Game used in schools worldwide to help students choose a career path that satisfied their own desires. When Bill’s curiosity brought him to the stage with Sheila’s Brush Theater he showed the same fearless audacity he brought to all of life’s encounters. And perhaps most of all Bill will be remembered for his tremendous capacity for fun. Where he went laughter followed and how happy were those who laughed with him. Bill loved music and dancing. As W.B. Yeats the Irish poet wrote “How can we know the dancer from the dance?” Bill will never stop dancing. Predeceased by his parents Sheila and Kevin Barry. Bill will be forever remembered and missed by his loving partner Heather Chafe, daughters Tracy (Jack) McGrath and grandson Jack of St. John’s; Mara (Caleb) Toombs and grandsons: Tennessee and Wilder of Halifax, Robyn Clements of Edmonton; sisters: Patricia (Jerome) Squires, Lilly (Gerard) Clarke, Brenda Barry (Rod O’Reilly), brother David Barry; special cousin Frank Barry (Rhonda Pelly), Wm. L. Chafe and family, nieces and nephews and many dear friends and colleagues. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will take place at Caul’s Funeral Home, LeMarchant Road on Wednesday and Thursday from 2 p.m. – 9 p.m. Funeral Service to take place from the Caul’s Chapel on Friday, November 18th at 10:30 a.m. followed by a celebration of Bill’s life at The Rose and Thistle Pub on Water Street. As an expression of sympathy flowers will be gratefully accepted, or a donation in Bill’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
