Ewen passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, with family by his side.
Born in Mabou, April 12, 1944, he was a son of the late John Alex and Agnes (MacEachen) MacDonnell.
He retired from Stora Enso as woodroom operator.
He is survived by sons, Lennie, Calgary, Robie, Halifax; daughters, Lynn Pelerine, Halifax, Natasha (Billy), Port Hawkesbury; Heather (Trevor), Troy; sister, Marion Slater, Florida, U.S.A.; and brother, Jack (Lorraine), Judique; seven grandchildren.
He was predeceased by infant brother, Alden, sisters, Frances Walsh and Jennette MacDougall, also by companion, Evelyn Callaghan.
Visitation will be today (Friday) from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the Dennis Haverstock Funeral Home, Port Hawkesbury. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m., Saturday from St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Port Hawkesbury, with Fr. Andrew Boyd officiating. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.
